Nivi nivura lyrics En

Nivi nivura

Gioia, gioia mia, chiovi una stidda

Dimmi cu ti fici accussì biedda

Occhi di onice, oceano r’anice

Sciara ri vulcanu supra ri mia

Vulcanu ri ciura rintra ri mia

Gioia, gioia mia, chiovi r’aieri

Dimmi comu si fa pi ririri arrieri

‘U friscu r’a notti, mi piersi a circallu

‘U nivuru ‘u portu rintra ri mia

‘U nivuru s’assuppa rintra ri mia

Nivi nivura, ti manciu e m’immriacu

Nivi nivura, ti manciu e m’immriacu

Gioia, in piettu a mia chiovinu chiova

Dimmi comu pozzu fari a ghiriminni p’u munnu

Senza farimi male e senza farinni a nuddu

Senza aviri rintra tutta ‘st’acqua

Ri chianciri, chianciri, chianciri

Nivi nivura, ti manciu e m’immriacu

Nivi nivura, ti vivu e mi sazìu

Gioia, gioia mia, armali duci

parra araciu araciu, nun astutamu la luci

Nivi nivura

Darling, my darling, a star rains down

Tell me, who made you so beautifully

Eyes of onyx, ocean of anisette

A volcano’s sciara [1] above me

Volcano of flowers inside me

Darling, my darling, it’s been raining since yesterday

Tell me how to start laughing again

The cool [2] air of the night, I lost myself looking for it

The blackness, I carry it inside me

The blackness is absorbed inside me

Black snow, I eat you and get drunk on you

Black snow, I eat you and get drunk on you

Darling, inside my chest it’s raining needles

Tell me how can I just go around the world

Without hurting myself nor anyone else

Without having all this water inside

To cry and cry and cry

Black snow, I eat you and get drunk on you

Black snow, I drink you and fill myself

Darling, my darling, tender animal

Speak quietly, let’s not turn off the light

[1]The word sciàra is used especially in the towns around Mount Etna (or in other volcanic areas) describing the lava when it cools down and becomes solid, accumulating close to the craters; or it describes even the lava itself flowing down: the Stromboli volcano’s Sciara flowing in the nighttime is a famous tourist attraction.

[2] Frìscu means both whistle and fresh / cool air. It seems that in a hot region like Sicily, cool weather comes automatically with the whistling wind.
